Comforting Those in Mourning

Warning: Some readers may find this blog highly upsetting

Yesterday, we went, with a local pastor’s daughter, to a family with clothes, food, hygiene products, a few toys, children’s Bibles, and blankets; most of which were brought on our Shop for Others page. This was a family of 5 children, 3 daughters & 2 sons, aged between 10 & 20 years old. They are currently staying in a relative’s very sparse apartment, because they literally own nothing. Before we arrived with five bags of groceries, they only had flour & oil for food in their apartment.

We share the next part with heavy hearts, caution, and care. We are very aware not to share more than what is already public knowledge for the love and privacy of the grieving family. The reason there are no photos of the family receiving anything is because this family has recently experienced a horrific tragedy. A few days ago, their second eldest daughter (17 years old) was pronounced dead due to domestic violence. Their sweet daughter was a mother to a 10-month-old baby, and at the time of her passing, she was 4 months pregnant with her second child.

When we went yesterday, we were able to pray with them, listen to them talk about their daughter and family. Just as we were leaving, the mom was thanking us all for everything given. We told her that it was given as a physical demonstration of the love that God has for them, and we could see that this spoke to their hearts. With tears in her eyes, the mom said, “Amen, amen, thank you!

We want to thank those who have brought items through Shop for Others, as it is because of your generosity that we could reach this family yesterday with the love of God, giving them support during a time of immense grief.

To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3
